Rousse Red Ale

Rousse Red Ale

Lake of Bays Brewing Company, Baysville, Ontario, Canada - Ale
Friday 24 February 2012 – 5%Alc./Vol.    52 / 100

Initial Thoughts
Definitely more a deep brown than red, but then again in the Canadian beer market, “Red” for some reason seems popular. Perhaps because it’s not “Blue”? The head of thick white foam on top is second to none...
First Sip
Crisp. Fresh. A little sour tasting. Not overly impressive.
Halfway Through
Hard to place this one. It’s called “Ale” and technically it might be an ale. Being a greater fan of ales than lagers though, this seems less ale-like than lager-like to me.
Bottoms Up
Tastes like it was made with a generous amount of fresh hops, sure it’s got a bit of malt in there too... overall however, disappointing. Tastes cheaply constructed. Where ales and particularly dark or “red” ales most often present warm, soothing personalities that are friendly and easy to enjoy, this one is bitter-sour and a tad harsh. Not my cup of tea.
